Our Coaches

Carlos Soto

CrossFit CF-L1

Carlos "Los" is a coach in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Kickboxing, Strength & Conditioning and Children's Self Defense and is CrossFit Level 1 (CF-L1) certified.  He is the Owner and Head Coach of Impact Zone.

He is a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and a Black Belt in Judo. He won 2 Silver Medals in the 2015 IBJJF No-Gi World Championships in the Black Belt Division as a heavyweight and in the absolute division.

As a Team USA Grappling World team member, Coach Los won double Gold in the 2016 U.S. Grappling World Team Trials in the 100 kg weight class in Gi and No-Gi. He then earned a gold medal in the Pan American Grappling World Championships in October 2016.

He is certified in strength & conditioning and personal training. He received his emergency medical technician certification from St. Elizabeth Healthcare.

Mike Schwartz

CrossFit CF-L1

Mike "Silver Fox" is a coach in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Strength & Conditioning and Children's Self Defense. He is CrossFit Level 1 (CF-L1) certified, has a background in bodybuilding and was a Purdue Boiler bodybuilder. He is a trained kickboxer and an expert in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Mike is a Brown Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and competes regularly at the state, regional and national level, most recently winning the 2015 BJJ Hoosier Open in his division.

Mike graduated from Purdue University in 1994. He is also a private pilot and certified diver.

Caleb Mickschl

CrossFit CF-L1

Caleb Mickschl is a Strength & Conditioning and Yoga coach at Impact Zone. He is a 2011 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School. In high school Caleb was a three sport athlete competing in Cross Country, Wrestling, and Track and Field. Caleb is a student in Purdue’s School of Human and Health Sciences pursuing a degree in Dietetics, Nutriton, Fitness, and Health. He is CrossFit Level 1 (CF-L1) certified, an ACE Certified Personal trainer and a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Caleb has been teaching Yoga since the fall of 2012 getting his start at Purdue University’s Ismail Center. Accomplishments in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Strength and Conditioning during 2015 include: No-Gi Beginner Middleweight (170.1 – 184.9 lbs) 1st Place 2015, Hoosier Open Adult Light White Belt (154.1 – 167 lbs) 1st Place 2015 and MidWest RX Showcase Team Competition (2 Men) 14th Place – Competed with S&C Coach Josh Roberts.

Josh Roberts

CrossFit CF-L1

Josh is a Strength & Conditioning coach at Impact Zone.  He is CrossFit Level 1 (CF-L1) certified. He competed in the 2014 and 2015 CrossFit Games Open as well as in the 2015 Midwest RX Showcase at the Indianapolis Fitness Expo.

Josh is currently in school working towards a Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science. He has a passion for CrossFit and loves coaching, training, and competing in the sport of fitness. 

Andrew Hieatt

CrossFit CF-L1

Drew is a Strength & Conditioning coach at Impact Zone. He is CrossFit Level 1 (CF-L1) certified. He is an exeprienced weightlifter and played football and lacrosse.  

Drew is a Firefighter/Emergency Medical Techician with the City of Lafayette, IN Fire Department. He is a state-certified EMT, a hazardous materials technician and a rope rescue technician. He has an AAS in Fire Science from Ivy Tech Community College.

His hobbies include riding motorcycles, kayaking, playing paintball and hiking with his dog.  Drew is also a volunteer as a camp counselor for the Hoosier Burn Camp.  

Ted Koeppen

Ted "Superman" is a Strength & Conditioning coach at Impact Zone. He has been a firefighter with the City of Lafayette, Indiana since 2002. Ted has competed in the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge since 2003.  He has finished as high as 11th in the USA and 16th in the world during his tenure competing.  He has not placed out of the Top 50 since 2003.  

He is a certified Speed and Power Specialist and certified in CPR/AED as a First Responder. Ted is a member of the City of Lafayette Wellness Committee, Coordinator of LFD Recruit Physical Training Program, and a author of LFD’s newsletter “Fit 2 Fight”. 

He has a B.A. in Movement and Sports Science and earned a Masters Degree in Higher Ed. Athletic Administration from Purdue University. While in graduate school Ted served as a Graduate Assistant Coach in Strength and Conditioning.

John Rosario

John Rosario is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach. He is a Guam native and started training Brazilian jiu-jitsu in Dayton, OH at the age of 22 (2011) under Jorge Gurgel Black Belt Mike Patt. He received his Purple Belt in 2014 under Jorge Gurgel Black Belt Jonathan Stutzman.

John is an an active competitor, medaling in numerous tournaments including the American Grappling Challenge, Grapplers Quest, EGO and IBJJF NY Pro. In addition to competing he shares a passion for teaching and sharing Jiu-Jitsu and helping to make an impact in others’ lives.

He attended the University of Guam and Wright State University for undergraduate studies and plans on furthering his education at Purdue University.

Justin Herbst

Justin is a Kickboxing coach at Impact Zone. He started training in mixed martial arts (MMA) with a goal of competing when he was 16 years old. Justin had his first amateur MMA bout as a senior in high school at 18 years of age.  First fight and first loss, but that set the tone of what he needed to work on to better himself and to achieve the goals that he had.

After many wins and a few losses here and there he achieved one of his goals by becoming the 155 pound champion for a local promotion. After years of competing as an amateur, he decided to turn pro and was able to achieve another goal in becoming a 155 pound pro champion for another local promotion. Since then he has competed in many professional MMA fights in many states against tough competition. Between amateur and pro he has close to 30 bouts under his belt. Primarily being a striker at heart, Justin took up kickboxing in the last couple of years. Last year he made his debut in kickboxing, taking 2 fights and winning both.

Amanda Mobley

Amanda Mobley is a Kickboxing coach at Impact Zone. She has trained in kickboxing for 3 years and has cornered over 10 kickboxing matches.  Amanda also trains in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

She is a United States Army veteran and served from 1997-2005. She served in Military Police and Unit Supply and deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2003-2004.

Amanda has a Degree in Accounting from Indiana Wesleyan University and is employed as the Plant Accountant at Oerlikon Fairfield as well as owner of Lafayette Mechanical Services.


Brandon Clawson

Brandon is a Kickboxing coach at Impact Zone. He began training mixed martial arts (MMA) in 2007 and has had over 30 amateur and professional MMA fights. Brandon has 3-1 professional MMA and 1-0 professional kickboxing records.  In addition to his kickboxing expertise, he is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu purple belt and is a formidable grappler on the mats.

He has a strong love for family and friends and believes that everyone should know some type of self defense. Brandon is married and has three beautiful daughters.
